NYC

Once upon a time there was a junior in college named Emily. She was the copy editor at the newspaper. She was lucky, too, because her closest friends worked at the newspaper, too. Christine was the Chief and Sierra was the Office Party Starter. They spent lots of time together in the office, shopping and on various adventurous excursions.

But then came May. Christine would graduate and get a job in New York, and Sierra was accepted to the school’s Study Abroad in London program. They were off to seek new adventures, while leaving Emily with the newspaper. Emily missed them a lot.

When school was let out for a few days and Emily’s other friend Christine had spring break that same week, the two decided to explore NY and visit friends. They had a blast, as you can see by Christine’s pictures more than Emily’s. As it turns out Emily like buildings, or at least pictures of buildings. And Emily seems like a big fat jerk because she didn’t actually get any pictures of she and her friends that she went to visit.

So hard core

Filed under: Daily Sass — Emily at 9:48 pm on Monday, March 27, 2006

The past couple days I have listened to the alternative rock radio station in my car. The bass and volume are up as I drive on campus. Reverberations let the pedestrians know how cool I am. I’m hard core.

I sing along, because I too want to stick it to the man. My voice is raspy. I’ve rebelled before.

I’m hard core rock ‘n’ roll.

Then another song comes on the radio. They say they are lonely. I know lonliness too. This is the lonliest day of their life. I’m lonely every day. It’s their most loneliest day. Jigga what? Most lonliest?! That’s not grammatically correct! Most lonely or just plain lonliest.

Well, being hard core was nice while it lasted.

Snow in the Bay Area!

I know I keep posting only pictures, but I can’t help it! It snowed last weekend in the Bay Area. I’ve lived there all my life and it snowed once, but melted before it hit the pavement. We hiked 11 miles to Murrieta Falls, the highest waterfall in the Bay Area. Now when my parents tell me that they walked to school 10 miles in the snow uphill both ways — I got them beat by a mile! And I know they’re liars because they went to school in the Bay Area.

The park rangers said it was the most snow they had seen there in about 15 years. They also said, quite matter-of-factly, don’t die or hurt yourself because you won’t be saved. Thanks for caring.

Nice socks, Nick. All three pairs! It’s amazing that we smiled, being as we still weren’t done with the 2-mile uphill.

Matt brought a Frisbee, and wouldn’t you know it, it became a sled! What it actually resulted in was an excuse for Matt to push me into the snow. “I promise it will work this time! I’m just a bad pusher.” I believed him and ended up with lots of snow down my pants.

And, of course, there were snowballs.

Thanks Ricky, Jeanie and that cute little tripod for the pictures.

Ladies and gentlemen, after a month of waiting … drum roll please … I have sheets on my bed!

Let the room cleaning party begin!

Who needs Disneyland when you have Costco?

Have you ever seen the Simpsons episode where Homer takes Bart to the good ole’ American Steel Mill? Homer is afraid that Bart is gay, so he wants him to see real men doing many work. Then the whistle blows. Platforms and cages holding men in ripped shorts and tank tops drop from the ceiling as C + C Music Factory demands “Everybody Dance Now.” Homer shrieks in horror as a worker yells out, “We work hard and we play hard!”

My friends, I work hard. Recently my life has been so focused on work and school that it takes me until 7 p.m. to realize I forgot to put socks on and I haven’t eaten in over 8 hours. It’s nearing a month since I’ve done laundry and my clean sheets have yet to reach my bed. When weekends turn into extended study breaks, the word “fun” takes on a whole different meaning. I have to squeeze most of my week’s worth of fun into a few, short hours.

Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for my new approach to playing hard: Costco.

Ready, set, go!

So, all these news reports predict a Bird Flu pandemic. Their advice? Store food under your bed! My cousin Megan and I used to do that at my grandma’s house so we could eat cookies late without having to creep around a dark kitchen. Is the whole world going to be isolated to their rooms for weeks on end? If that’s the case, I’d better get a Honey Bucket and an Internet land line (we’re talking about bare bone basics here, people!).

And why is the Bird Flu Pro smirking at America? Because he’s already got food stored under his bed. Three months worth.

Looks like I will just have to move my five-pound bag of pancake mix, 8 uncooked tortillas and a nubbin of cheese. Oh, and my Yoshida cooking sauce. And sprinkles. Yep, that rounds out the Atwood food stock. Consider me prepared.

Who loves watching all the home makeover shows? I do! I do! You do too? Great! It’s time to flex your artsy fartsy muscles.

I have a dilemma:

This is my room at my other home. Well, it’s part of it. It’s a loft with a slanted roof. I don’t know what to do with it. Problem is, when I put my mattress and boxspring up there, I wake up hitting my head on the slantedness.

Here’s another view of my room, to give you an idea of the completed space. Overall, the decor is very high school. (I made the wave stencils and my dad and I painted it.) Explosion of clutter? I know. Again, high school. Please be reminded that I have not consistently lived in this room for four years.

What I want: An answer to my loft space conundrum! I’d love to have a comfortable, but separate sleep and entertaining space. I’m also willing to discuss different and overall decor theme and paint colors, though the blue carpet in the loft may have to be a part of that plan.

Ready, go!

Porn is bad. I have no tolerance for it. Nothing good comes from it. You don’t have to tell that twice to the 17 million people who bought porn online only to have their personal information sold on the black market.

Best solution? STAY AWAY FROM THE STUFF! If not for your sanity, mind and relationships — for your security.

I know my last post was a link to something cool. And here I have another one. But I promise to write some really funny, intellectually stimulating stuff real soon. … Okay, so I can’t really promise that. Just know that I really want to, but that life is taking over my life.

So, ladies and gents, I give you Natalie Portman at her finest!

P.S. I’d just like to say that my Mass Media Law teacher talked about “those crazy bloggers” today. Yep, that’s right! I’m going to fool all you journalists with misinformation just so you can get sued! Muahahahaha!
