SAY IT ISN’T SO!

Perez and People say Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have split! That is so sad! I thought they were going to last. But in Hollywood, divorce is in like leggings as pants. Is personal success really that damaging for marriage? I find it particularly disappointing because I remember seeing clips of a young Reese talking about the responsibility and sensibility it takes to be a public figure.

I could definitely use some CASH MOHNEEE after a day like today. But I feel like I lost the YoMamma challenge that life threw at me today.

Tomorrow: Touche life.

Life, your momma’s so stupid she sat on the TV and watched the couch! (Oooooooohhh!!!)

Fleet Week

We went to Fleet Week.

It was cool.

And loud.

And crowded.

My favorite part was the smoke shapes.

One of these days…

… I will wake up to one of my three alarms. My usual morning:

Alarm 1: “Dynamic” beeping midi

Me: What is that annoying sound? Where’s the button that turns it off? There it is, the “OK to go back to sleep” button.

Alarm 2: “Matt” — It was a novel idea to have my boyfriend record a wakeup greeting.

Me: (Freaks out.) Matt’s right next to me?! Oh, wait, he’s telling me to get up. Matt’s so great. He talks so softly, like as if in a dreeeaaaam … zzz.

Alarm 3: “Fanfare” electronic bugaling

Me: (Jumps up.) MAKE IT STOP! MAKE IT STOP! (Presses button.) Whew, it stopped. Peace and quiet = time for more sleep!

Blisscotti

My favorite foods are sandwiches and ice cream. Put them together? You get your typical ice cream sandwich. They may try to spice it up with neopolitan or mint chip ice cream. But then pure genius renewed my faith in the beautiful composition: Blisscotti. Someone finally had the brilliant idea to throw in the taste of an Italian vacation, complete with a gondola ride. I got mine at Costco, but the Web site has a vendor search for your area.

I still think one of the main reasons I love these so much is because of the cute, dotty packaging. Love!

Vroom, baby

If you haven’t figured it out yet, Matt and I are pretty cool. We are invited to exclusive winery events and have tons of connections in the Northern California club circuit. And then Lexus begged us to come to the Taste of Lexus SF private soiree to test their latest luxury cars.* Somehow we managed to squeeze it in between our other various VIP appearances.**

We jetted over to the old Alameda Naval base and were ushered through the lavish tents. After a hard-fought battle with crazed freebie lovers, we munched on crab cakes, pasta, beef kabobs and cookies … and maybe a slice of cheesecake … or two.

We eventually made it to the courses outside. With so many lines, we knew we had to map out our options. First up was the GS 450 Hybrid. Specs don’t mean much to me, so I was just anxious to go for a spin. I wasn’t expecting much in the way of luxury, as the Prius drove like any other car, with the difference of a crazy shifter. We were impressed with the acceleration, but knew that the increased horsepower wouldn’t transfer into increased mpg, which is the only reason to buy a hybrid. Oh, and to impress people with your love for the environment.

I was excited to drive the SC 340 (convertible) aka Ashlee Simpson Mobile. It was all well and good, but the acceleration didn’t kick in as quickly as I’d hoped. The course was pretty short, so I don’t feel like I was able to fully experience the car. But it’s cute. Very cute. And the seats are amazingly comfortable. I drove the RX 350 and enjoyed it. Though, I consider the best SUV driving experience to be our old ’85 Ford Bronco. You ruled the road in that thing, which is basically why people drive SUVs.

The highlight of the entire day was driving the IS 350 — hands down, up, or giving yo bro a punch. The car seemed to accelerate before the neurons in your brain told your foot to push the pedal. The steering was graceful. It sounds funny, I know, but I mean it. It’s so easy and light, yet powerful and fast. This has been Matt’s favorite model for a while, and I finally was able to understand. Now we both love it; so much so that we’re going to get matching his and hers IS 350s. It’s going to be great.

Here is Matt driving the IS 350. Please forgive my dumb trill “aaahs.” I would like to remind you that I do have a brain, a very active and educated one at that, and my blonde highlights are fake. I will have better awareness of my dumb noises next time I take a video to put on the www.

*Okay, so my parents let us come to their winery-owning friends’ event, Christine lets us share in her dad’s freebies, and Matt and I had to slyly copy the confirmation number from another lady to officially get into the Lexus deal. But we are cool without help! I swear!
**VIP appearances meaning church and a trip to Ikea. Sara noted that we have become like Will Ferrell in Old School – planning our weekends around trips to big box stores.

SWF looking for the perfect boot

Filed under: Daily Sass, Posh Sass — Emily at 8:49 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2006

When shopping for a pair of boots online (me shopping for another pair of shoes? No!) it’s easy to be overwhelmed. You’d think “boots” would merely be a subcategory of shoes. No, no my friend. It is just the beginning. Comfort boots. Leather boots. Heels. No heels. Over the knee, mid calf, ankle. Cordura? After selecting the options you think will make a perfect boot, eshoeharmony gives you this:

boot

boots

And the Grand Poobah:

ugly boots

Is it the Internet’s odd choices of Emily’s Perfect Boots or an instance of finding more than one needle in a fashion-defunct haystack that makes me COVET these boots:

cute boots

cute boots

What girl hates the snow and general cold and is actually excited for the winter? Me because it’s BOOT SEASON!
